Previous Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer and parliamentarian Syed Shahabuddin, who was experiencing a drawn out sickness, passed on at a healing facility in this suburb of the national capital on Saturday morning, a nearby associate said.

Shahabuddin started filling in as a negotiator for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), later turned into a legislator.
He served three terms from 1979-1996 as a MP. He is notable for his association in the Shah Bano case and his restriction to the destruction of the Babri Masjid.
He was the Joint Secretary responsible for South East Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific in the Ministry of External Affairs.
